Fathers and Children

In Luke 1 we see the first purpose of the ministry of John is to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children. (verse 17). This takes up where Malchi left off stating that Elijah would both turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, but also the children to the fathers. (Malachi 4:1) This reminds me of the cover of Francis Schaeffer's book True Spirituality,which has a picture of a husband and wife holding their child. What a great picture of True Spirituality. We are to live out the truths of the gospel by loving our family, which is the first and foremost way that we demonstrate our love for God.
